Ta da!

La sac est fini! I finished this huge giant pain in the bum purse!
I've learned soooo many things from this.

  1. If you haven't sewn anything in years, don't assume that an Amy Butler purse is a good place to start.

  2. If someone won't notice a non-structural mistake while walking past, it's probably still okay. (Just like knitting!)

  3. Rotary cutters were invented for a reason

Anyways, it really was a great learning experience. I have a bunch of Amy Butler fabric left over, I have a nice summery purse that I will actually use, and I found out that my mom's 30 year old sewing machine will successfully sew through up to 14 layers of fabric. If I could do it all over again, I would have chosen an easier purse with a pattern that didn't cost $12US. I really like the finished object (which is modified 8 million ways), but I guess my knitting pattern preferences are similar to my sewing preferences. The pattern was just WAY TOO wordy. My mom and I would stand there, reading the instructions to each other while manipulating the fabric pieces, and eventually figure it out. Without further ado, the Amy Butler Covington purse!

Here is a bad picture of the modified lining. I added a pocket that isn't really big enough for anything, but it's there. I added side panels as well as a bottom panel to the lining because I just couldn't understand how it would work. Although I pretty much didn't care, and totally slapped the lining together, it turned out well enough for me.

I'm proud of myself for actually making something that turned out so well, and I'm really happy with my new purse. The stripes don't match perfectly, but I can live with it. Next week, I'll possibly start a wee little hedgehog fabric totebag, but it will be EASY! From Simple Sewing with a French Twist, but with a few modifications, of course!

(also, I found out that I passed the essay of doom, how sweet is that! Don't know the mark, just that I passed. Yay!)

Looks fantastic - I love the fabric. And the pocket is big enough for a couple of smarties, isn't it?
